Following the release of the 330 P2, Ferrari evolved the model into another release of the 330 P series. 1966 was when the Ferrari P3 was first seen, the main difference between the P2 and the P3 was the Lucas fuel injection system and the ZF 5-speed transmission. The exquisite build of the 330 P3 consisted of a unique shape for its time was an excellent vehicle that was designed for racing.
The Ford GT40 was in direct competition with all of the 330 models made by Ferrari. The automobile company Ford had stepped up their game in the car manufacturing industry in previous years, and had trumped Ferrari in 1966 according to race car enthusiasts.
THE BODY
The Ferrari 330 P3 has a tubular chasis with a fibre glass tub. This was revolutionary for its time as it was and still is deemed a unique shape for vehicles to be designed.
Inside the fibreglass tub consisted of the engine and the gearbox, which were both a critical and significant feature of the automobile, and furthermore increased the stability and strength of the car. The doors were also made from a fibreglass material increasing aero-dynamics.
the engine
The engine of the 330 P3 consisted of 12 cylinders. The V12 motor weighed just under 30kg than the P2 model. This happened from the redesigned cylinder heads, and the new Lucas injection system.
The 5-Speed transmission was note worthy for the succession of the vehicle winning significant races by Parked/Scarfiotti at Spa, and by Surtees/Parkes at the 1000 km of Monza.
